The International Make-Up Artist Trade Show, which shares Hollywood movie magic, make-up trends and top products, returns to the Toronto Congress Centre Nov. 17-18. Industry leaders from film, fashion, TV and theater will offer classes, talks and live demonstrations.
Emmy-winning Saturday Night Live key make-up artist Josh Turi will be one of three keynote speakers at IMATS. He’ll discuss his sometimes hectic work on the long-running live comedy show, as well as in film.
Fashion star Lottie will be the show’s beauty keynote speaker. Her credits include Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Vanity Fair; she has also keyed fashion week shows for Stella McCartney and Versace Press. Her celebrity clients include Robert De Niro, Freida Pinto and Leighton Meester.
Movie make-up artist Gordon Smith, whose credits include X-Men, X2, Platoon, Nixon and JFK, rounds out the keynote speaker list. He is a 30-year industry veteran and the subject of the exhibit X-Men Master: Gordon Smith, now showing at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, a gallery affiliated with the Toronto International Film Festival.
Major cosmetics lines will show and sell the latest and greatest products and tools and offer make-up classes at the show.
IMATS Toronto also features the Battle of the Brushes, a live student make-up competition divided into two themes: Wild Kingdom (beauty/fantasy) and Men in Black Aliens (character/prosthetic). Students will race against the clock to create winning looks and take home cash and prizes.
IMATS Toronto will be held 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18 at the Toronto Congress Centre, North Hall H, located at 650 Dixon Road, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Admission is $40-$80 CAD.
IMATS is produced by Make-Up Artist magazine, a division of Key Publishing Group. It’s held six times annually, in Los Angeles; New York; London; Vancouver, B.C; Sydney; and Toronto. Make-Up Artist magazine is read in more than 70 countries and was created in 1996 by Emmy Award-winning make-up artist Michael Key.
