  IMATS Sydney 2012 Keynote Speaker: Adam Johansen

Adam Johansen

 

Adam Johansen is a special make-up effects artist. His body of work spans 20 years and includes some of the biggest films and television shows in the business. He and Damian Martin are co-founders of the Sydney-based company Odd Studio. Some of their film credits include Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Farscape, Wolverine, The Matrix Reloaded, Babe: Pig in the City, Where the Wild Things Are, Superman Returns, The Cup, Australia and Mad Max: Fury Road.

Rachel Montgomery

 

Rachel Montgomery, whose career has spanned more than 12 years, was awarded the Australian Make-up Artist of the Year title in 2011 and 2012. Her body of work includes beauty and fashion editorials, advertising and celebrities. Her clients include Florence Welch, Cyndi Lauper, Australian prime minister Julia Gillard, Westfield, Sony, Marie Claire, Grazia, Sunday Magazine, Cleo, Cosmopolitan and Oyster. She often shares her knowledge as an educator and public speaker.

Sarah Rubano

 

Prosthetic make-up artist Sarah Rubano has worked on some of the most visually exciting feature films in recent history. Her credits include Neill Blomkamp’s District 9, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and 30 Days of Night, plus the upcoming films Elysium and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

   IMATS 2012 Sydney Featured Speaker: Becca Gilmartin

Becca Gilmartin

 

Becca Gilmartin is one of Australia’s leading body artists. Her work has appeared in publications such as RUSSH and Oyster and on fashion-week catwalks since 2009; it has also been shown in national galleries. Gilmartin was recently a semifinalist for the Moran Prize for her work with photographer Thor Elias. She is an established artist and educator who regularly teaches how to use body art as a tool to refine make-up skills and explore creativity.

Donna Mee

 

Donna Mee is a 30-year make-up veteran and author specializing in corrective beauty make-up for print; she honed her skills in runway, print and television. Formerly the director of make-up with MAKE UP FOR EVER, she is known for developing advanced methods for contour/highlight and color theory. Mee created industry-staple make-up brushes and has invented new beauty tools that will be launched soon. Her ability to relate complex material into easily understood information greatly impacts artists’ work.

Rae Morris

 

Apart from being one of the world's most influential make-up artists, Rae Morris is also a best-selling author and the designer of the acclaimed Rae Morris brush collection. Her natural talent and willingness to share her knowledge have made her one of the industry’s leading educators; her books have been included in the curriculum for make-up schools around the world. In her latest book, Timeless Makeup, Morris has focused on real techniques for real women.

Thomas Surprenant

 

Thomas Surprenant won an Emmy for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. With more than 28 years in film and television, his credits include X-Men: The Last Stand, Big Fish, Frida, Donnie Darko and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Television credits include The Mentalist, The O.C., House M.D. and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Surprenant designs, sculpts and fabricates creations that include animatronics, teeth and body parts. He has taught make-up at Last Looks Makeup Academy and Final Checks.

Yolanda Bartram

 

Yolanda Bartram specializes in special make-up effects in body and face art. She runs her company, BodyFX, in New Zealand and travels the world teaching and competing. In 2010 she won first place in the Special Effects category of Austria’s World Bodypainting Festival, as well as first and second places at prestigious American body-art competitions. Her company sells BodyFX Prosthetics worldwide through www.bodyfx.co.nz.

Bennett, an admitted product junkie, is considered an industry expert and reference source. He is happiest when working with, designing, buying, talking or writing about his passion: make-up!

Jos Brands

 

Jos Brands, the creative director of Kryolan International, is internationally renowned. His work includes fashion shows in Düsseldorf and Paris, beauty contests, film, TV, theater, beauty editorial and advertising. He has worked with leading fashion photographers and designers including Raf Simons and Viktor & Rolf. Brands also holds a professorship at Belgium’s Antwerp Municipal Institute for Adult Education. His book Airbrush and Make-up is sold in more than 85 countries.

Martin Bray

 

Martin Bray is a renowned make-up artist whose celebrity clients include Kelly Rowland, Miranda Kerr, George Michael and The Veronicas. He has directed make-up for Myer seasonal fashion parades and Sydney Fashion Week. His work has appeared in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and many more publications. Advertising clients include Red Bull, Mont Blanc, Sony and others. Bray is make-up director for The X Factor Australia 2012 and has developed his own make-up line, called Martin Bray Pro Range.

Eliza Campagna

 

Over the last 11 years, Eliza Campagna has worked in all aspects of production, including live and scripted television, feature and short films, print advertising, television commercials and photography. She has worked with local and internationally recognized stars including Miranda Kerr, Fifi Box, Mel Doyle, Kochie, Samantha Armytage, Georgie Parker, Mark Holden, Claudia Karvan and Geoffrey Rush, to name a few. She recently worked on The Great Gatsby and Wolverine.

Debbie Muller

 

Debbie Muller is a multi-talented make-up artist working in film, television, print, fashion and theater. She recently completed filming on The Great Gatsby and Coca-Cola’s “Move to the Beat” commercial, which aired during the London Olympics. Additional credits include Darker After Midnight, Feed, Naked Boys Singing and Young Talent Time. Her clients include Jerry Hall, Bryan Brown, Bill Hunter and Dannii Minogue. She is director at Final Checks make-up academy in Sydney.

Dana Nye

 

Dana Nye is the president of Ben Nye Makeup and a former Hollywood make-up artist. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Ben Nye Sr., and brother, Ben Nye Jr.  As a make-up artist, Dana Nye primarily worked in television, with credits including Dear John, The Jeffersons, Webster, Brothers and Murphy Brown. He is now devoted to overseeing operations at Ben Nye Makeup in Los Angeles. He enjoys developing new products and travels frequently to introduce Ben Nye to professional artists around the world.

Cherie Spisso

 

Renowned celebrity hair and make-up artist Cherie Spisso divides her time between Europe and Australia, working with high-profile celebrities including Mandy Moore, Snoop Dogg and Keith Urban on fashion and ad campaigns as well as opera, film, concerts and red-carpet events. Her specialty is corrective camouflage, which is apparent in her work with DMK Cosmetics International and in magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar and Oyster.

Nicole Thompson

 

M.A.C. Senior Artist Nicole Thompson specializes in body art and high-fashion make-up design. Her editorial work has appeared in several fashion magazines, including Oyster and Harper's Bazaar. Thompson’s biggest make-up rule, “there are no rules,” is reflected in her endless experimenting with tools and products. This is true whether she’s at the counter working with a consumer, backstage and on set with designers, or working with celebrities Hugh Jackman and Dame Edna.
