The International Make-Up Artist Trade Show is back, bringing world-class talent, live make-up demos and outstanding shopping opportunities to Sydney. Now in its fourth year, IMATS Sydney will be held Sept. 29-30 at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre.

International guests and keynote speakers will include Sarah Rubano, whose credits include District 9 and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, plus the upcoming films The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Elysium.

The 2011 and 2012 Australian Make-up Artist of the Year, Rachel Montgomery, will also be a keynote speaker; her clients include Cyndi Lauper, Julia Gillard and Marie Claire. Odd Studio’s Adam Johansen (Wolverine, Australia) rounds out the keynote list.

Additional guest speakers include M.A.C. Senior Artist Nicole Thompson and Emmy-winning make-up effects artist Thomas Surprenant, whose credits include Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and X-Men: The Last Stand. Fashion veteran Rae Morris and body-painting pros Becca Gilmartin and Jos Brands will also lead demos and discussions.

International cosmetics companies will be offering the latest and greatest products and tools at IMATS; it’s a great place to find good deals on top-quality brands.

IMATS Sydney also features a Make-up Museum, with pieces from film and television shows. And in the student make-up competition, called the Battle of the Brushes, international make-up students will compete in two themed categories to create winning looks and take home trophies, cash and prizes.

In addition to the Sydney show, IMATS is held in Los Angeles in January; New York in April; London in June; Vancouver, British Columbia in July; and Toronto in November. All events are produced by Make-Up Artist magazine, a division of Key Publishing Group. Read in nearly 70 countries, the magazine was created in 1996 by Emmy Award-winning make-up artist Michael Key.
