Day One of IMATS Sydney 2011 Wraps Up

Day one of IMATS Sydney 2011 came to a close with an excited crowd welcoming keynote speaker Napoleon Perdis to the stage. The Hollywood make-up artist came home to Sydney to discuss his make-up philosophies.

Ticket sales for IMATS Sydney 2011 nearly doubled those of last year, and judging by the steady stream of shoppers seen on the Live Web Cam, ticketholders couldn't wait for Sunday. The camera will be back up again for Sunday's show.

One of the many highlights of the day was the beauty/fantasy student competition. Wade-William Ambler (left; photo by David Clare) won first place and Ashlea Cooney won second place. At press time, details were not available for the third place winner.

Lane and Perdis 2011 Keynote Speakers

Oscar-winning make-up artist Tami Lane has been announced as a keynote speaker for IMATS Sydney 2011, and cosmetics company founder Napoleon Perdis will share the latest trends and backstage techniques with show visitors.

Lane, who won an Oscar for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, worked on the Lord of the Rings films and is currently the prosthetics supervisor on Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit.

Perdis is a backstage regular at New York and Australian Fashion Weeks; he runs six Napoleon Perdis Makeup Academies in Australia and one in Los Angeles. In addition to Perdis’ address, the Napoleon Perdis Creative and Makeup Academy teams will lead make-up demonstrations throughout the weekend.
