Award-winning film, runway, TV and theater make-up artists are coming to the International Make-Up Artist Trade Show New York. The show returns to Pier 94 April 11-13, 2014, featuring speakers, classes, make-up demos, shopping and networking opportunities.
Keynote speakers will include David Martí and Montse Ribé, of the Barcelona-based make-up effects shop DDT Efectos Especiales. The pair won a 2007 Achievement in Makeup Oscar for their work on Pan’s Labyrinth. They have also worked on Mama, Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life and Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
Beauty artist Sam Fine will make his first official IMATS appearance as a beauty keynote speaker. His clients include Queen Latifah, Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Iman, Beyoncé, Vanessa Williams, Mary J. Blige and more. He is the author of Fine Beauty: Beauty Basics and Beyond for African-American Women and a Beauty Ambassador for CoverGirl.
Robin Mathews will also join IMATS as a first-time keynote speaker. She has worked on Wild, the Twilight films New Moon and Eclipse, The Runaways (after which she was offered a Make Up For Ever contract), Django Unchained and Dallas Buyers Club, for which she received her first Oscar win this year. She has been the personal make-up artist for Reese Witherspoon, Melissa Leo and Forest Whitaker, among others.
Make-up effects artist Anthony Giordano will curate the Make-up Museum, which will showcase movie, TV and theater make-up memorabilia from well-known artists.
Educators include Emmy-winning make-up effects artist Thomas Surprenant, former Face Off competitor Tate Steinsiek (doing a make-up effects demo), body painter Becca Gilmartin, cosmetics company founder Eve Pearl, Halle Berry personal Siân Richards (Cloud Atlas) and Emmy-winning artist Kevin James Bennett (Elle, InStyle, Another World, As the World Turns).
Exhibitors including Make Up For Ever, Dermalogica, Inglot, Embryolisse and Stila will be offering new products and old favorites, while educators and speakers will offer top tips, new techniques and behind-the-scenes stories in classes, panel discussions and presentations.
In the Battle of the Brushes student make-up competitions, international make-up students will race to create winning looks. This year’s beauty competition is themed Art Through the Ages; the character competition is themed The World of Comic Books and Graphic Novels.
