Oscar-winning make-up effects artist Howard Berger and celebrity beauty artist Tina Turnbow will headline this year’s International Make-Up Artist Trade Show New York, which returns to Pier 94 April 5-7. Along with the education, shopping and networking opportunities, this show will bring artists together to celebrate Issue 100 of Make-Up Artist magazine at a special Saturday-night event.

Berger—cofounder of make-up effects shop KNB EFX Group Inc.—is the creative genius behind recent releases Hitchcock and Oz The Great and Powerful. Turnbow, a New York Times beauty writer, specializes in runway and editorial, working with celebrities including Brooke Shields, Olivia Wilde and Claire Danes, and with fashion photographers including Arthur Elgort.

Emmy-winning Saturday Night Live key artist Josh Turi will be at IMATS New York, too, reprising his role as curator of the Make-up Museum, which will showcase movie, TV and theater make-up memorabilia from well-known artists.

Pier 94, located at 711 12th Ave., boasts 133,000 square feet, where exhibitors will be offering new products and old favorites. And as always, educators and speakers will offer top tips, new techniques and behind-the-scenes stories in classes, panel discussions and presentations.

In the Battle of the Brushes student make-up competitions, international make-up students will race to create winning looks. This year’s beauty competition is themed The Elements; the character competition has an Oz theme.

The show will run April 6-7; a pre-show event, held April 5, will be open exclusively to Make-Up Artist magazine Pro-Card holders. Pro hours are 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 5 and 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday, April 7; public hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 6 (followed that evening at 6 p.m. by the Issue 100 party) and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 7.

IMATS is produced by Make-Up Artist magazine, a division of Key Publishing Group. IMATS is held annually in Los Angeles; New York; London; Vancouver, B.C.; Sydney and Toronto. Make-Up Artist is read in nearly 70 countries and was created in 1996 by Emmy Award-winning make-up artist Michael Key.
